sheet music
Hello alan,
1. have you (or anyone else) published sheet music transcriptions of the music you played on RENAISSANCE DE LA HARPE CELTIQUE?
2. Did you record the song ‘Bretagne’ (Brittany) and if so, on which album?
Thank you!
Stephanie Bennett
Hello,
yes, it has been and is published by Intersong-Tutti, now Warner (with some mistakes I will find time some day to correct).
I don’t know this song; or perhaps have you got a mistake in the title(?); in what album did you find it?
best wishes,
alan
Thanks so much for answering, Alan!
« Brittany » (or Llydaw, the Welsh name) is a traditional song, probably Welsh, recorded by Robin Huw Bowen among others. (You can hear clips of it on iTunes). I learned it from a harpist friend of mine, who learned it from a book of sheet music published by Robin Huw Bowen, but when I heard it I could have SWORN that I remembered hearing a recording of YOU playing it, so apparently I was mistaken! I’m glad I checked with you!
May I say that it is an honor to communicate with you, and that RENAISSANCE DE LA HARPE CELTIQUE is my #1 ‘desert island’ record (Do you have that expression in French? Meaning that I would need to take it with me if I were going to live on a desert island forever.) A Breton friend gave it to me in 1972 when I had been playing harp for only a few years (I am now a professional harpist) and it continues to thrill and inspire me. I long ago learned MORRISON’S JIG by ear from listening to you play it, and I will see if I can find that sheet music to facilitate learning more of your wonderful arrangements. (I could learn them by ear but it would take longer). Thanks again! Stephanie Bennett (et merci pour me répondre en Englais; je comprends pas mal de Francais – assez pour comprendre votre website – mais mon (ma?) vocabulaire n’est pas grand et ma grammaire est ahurissant.)
You are welcomed;
yes the expression is similar in french; …but you say « do you have…in french »: remember that french is the language of our neighbours…
thank you for what you say; I want to give more explainations about my arrangements, compositions and interpretations here;
best whishes from Llydaw!
