Dear Alan,
I am so happy to see that you have been able to reactivate your blog. It is very commendable that you keep this line of communication open.
I have been listening to your album Explore which I like very much. When I first heard it I thought it a departure from your previous albums, but the rythm is compelling and quickly I found it was under my skin.
I see you will have a concert in Lorient on March 2nd, 2007. That is my birthday and I will be travelling to Brittany with a dear friend of mine for that concert. It would bring me such joy if I could say hello to you in person (do you think that would be possible?), and I would be very honored if you would accept the gift of a small painting as I am so often inspired and moved by your music which I often listen to while I work.
To finally visit beautiful Brittany and hear your music live will be like a dream for me. It will refresh my spirit and give me new inspiration.
Thank you for the music.
Phillipa

it is very nice from you to travel for a concert in Lorient/AnOriant; I don’t know exactly how it will be organized, so, it is a bit early to tell you if I will be able to go and say hello; nevertheless I will do the best concert I can; from where will you come from?

Dear Anastassia,
Are you looking for a 34 strings celtic harp ? Try Camac http://www.camac-harps.com/ . I have good experience with this manufacturer. I just visit your site and found : « She began to teach herself the harp in 1998 because she was impressed by music of Alan Stivell »… me too but in 2002.

Thank you! My first harp was Camac’s Troubadour of 22 strings. I really like it. But big harp is very expensive for me Sad May be I should ask smb (If you know any site or blog about the subject) of second hand harp may be…

Did you play harp before you heard Alan Stivell’s music?

My 1st celtic harp was a 31 str. Korrigan second-hand provided by Camac. Camac has sometimes second-hand harps. Ask Camac !
Good to know : Camac provides low cost sensors to amplify the sound.
I’ll ask friends to complement my answer about 2nd-hand celtic harps.

Did you play harp before you heard Alan Stivell’s music?

No! Practice of music was 100% unknown for me. Alan Stivell’s music and celtic harp are full responsible Laughing of my « entrance » in the world of music.

Dear Alan, Thank you for your response. I will be travelling from the United States, but I have family in England so I may go to the UK either before or after I visit Brittany. I hope to be in Brittany for about 3 weeks, so perhaps I will have an opportunity to see you more than once in concert. I thought I had seen 2 other concerts planned during March, but perhaps your plans changed.
I am sure that you always do your best at every concert and even if I do not have the chance to say hello it will be an honor to see you perform. However, I am still hopeful that our paths will cross and I still dream that you will allow me to give my art to one of your album covers one day. (I assume that you will be around for a long time and will continue to create albums, so perhaps!)
I am sure there is a reason that I have been affected so deeply and for so long by your music. I think I feel somewhat the way you do about art. It is a personal blessing and my salvation, but it only has meaning if it is a way to get to the truth and to share with others in a meaningful way.
I have been reading the liner notes to your CDs and find there is much wisdom there – too many to quote here, but this is a passage that I particularly like – « The heart of another can be felt by all – Deep down, all men are alike – To know the source of man’s heart is unchanging – Makes the exchange of ideas possible – We must understand what others are really saying – We don’t always hear what they tell us – Eventually we’ll have to get on and live together – While each remains himself, so goes life » – Beautiful! and another – « …dance the universal dance, the dance of the people of the Earth – Those who only believe in man, those who prayed God – Their words could not tell the Truth – Each held a part of the truth, a share of error – Only one thing was completely false! Being beyond the others …Let’s love them, whoever it may be… » – and one more – Very wise were my fathers the druids – Very wise were there of the other time – Who knew the inescapable destruction – Which precedes the inescapable Spring – They knew the power of thought – Which crosses the night of milleniums – And is born again, reincarnated » Such power in words!!

Love and Peace,
Phillipa

Dear Alan,
I was recently listening to a CD by Rachid Taha – his live album. It is very energetic – almost manic one might say. Are you familiar with his music? I know he has collaborated with other artists in the name of world peace and I could not help but think how interesting it would be to hear him peforming with you.
I really agree with you when you say that to embrace diversity it is important to retain our cultural differences – to clebrate the richness it adds to our life experiences.
Best Wishes
Phillipa
