For English speakers, I must inform them that we have got a very hard debate, these days, about the place of so-called « regional » languages in the French republic.
Jurassic arguments and insults have been used against us by French representatives, by the « Académie Française », by the Senate, by professors, journalists, and some people over many forums.
The people is very intelligent: despite of this and centuries long propaganda, about 70% of all French republic ‘s people seem to be in favour of us.
Sarkozy, which I don’t support, is (on this point) a bit better than these French nationalists: he is in favour of a law aiming to protect our languages, as well as he seems in favour of the suppression of the « départements » (which empede a good adminstration and true democracy in Brittany as elsewhere).
Chirac, who has created a foundation for nature and cultures in danger, should normally be now for us; but looking at his several refuses during his presidenceship, it seems that he wants all languages of the planet survive, except Breton and the 8 other languages of the European French territory. Very moral and coherent…
The Left is very divided too. Number of its leaders try to make a balance between their own heavy nationalism and a more natural and logical internationalism.
