Tri martolod (new')

Alan Stivell | lyrics » |
At first, I did not think to sing, for the nth time Tri martolod!
But supposed to go around the house without this song, which was immediately acclaimed? Without an ultimate version?
I finally opted for this kind of bonus-happiness.
My musical journey, through multiple landscapes and sound arrangements, where a plethora of musicians accepted a piece of road: some on the guitar, another on the Hammond organ, the pib-ilin, the violin, the machines or to the accordion and myself making the bagad and other instruments.
It evokes well the other voyage of these sailors, imagined by this or that Breton of the coast, of the memory of a market in the capital Nantes, of an engagement ring, and heading for Newfoundland which, in my ears , has always sounded rather like a new Earth, in which I always wanted to think, against all odds.
Who knows me a little would find it hard to believe that I would have been content with a sober version. On the contrary, I felt the desire for a kind of fireworks, trying to put all the possible variations of my original arrangement, in these four minutes that remind me of so many bright faces in the first row, from hands to heaven and the heavy footsteps of guys dancing this round of sailor-fisherman, like hand shadows in the back of the room.

Translation :
Three young sailors leaving, embarked
To Newfoundland, by the wind blown away
Near the rocks of the mill, they dropped anchor,
Inside this mill was a maid
And she to ask where we were met,
In Nantes, it was at the market,
A ring we were given ... ...
Head for Newfoundland
Towards a new land
